Jawline Filler
in St. George, Utah
Define the mandibular angle. Sharpen the jaw. Counter lower-face descent. Performed by Janessa Kraupp-Sampson, MSN, FNP-BC, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
A Continuous Line From Chin to Ear
A defined jawline isn't one feature — it's the perception of a continuous, unbroken line running from the chin, along the body of the mandible, up to the angle, then to the ear. As we age, that line softens: the chin retrudes, the body of the mandible thins, the angle rounds, and the prejowl sulcus deepens. Filler restores each segment.
The skill is balance. Putting too much volume at the angle without supporting the chin and body produces a disjointed, “rectangle face” look. Janessa builds jaw definition as a connected sculpture — assessing your full lower face, not just the angle — so the result reads as a sharper version of you, not a different face.
When Filler Isn't the Answer
Jawline filler builds on what's there. It can't fix every concern that looks like “jaw problems.” A few cases where Janessa will redirect:
- Bulky masseter creating a square lower face. Filler will make it bigger, not smaller. Botox in the masseter is the right tool.
- Significant jowls or neck banding. Filler can disguise mild jowling but not pronounced sagging. RF skin tightening or surgical referral is better.
- Patients with thick subcutaneous fat in the lower face. Filler placed deep won't define the jaw if the overlying tissue is too thick. Body composition or Kybella may help first.

Frequently Asked Questions
At Aera Medical Aesthetics, jawline filler runs $700–$900 per syringe. Most patients need 2–4 syringes total (one to two per side) for visible jaw definition. Janessa typically recommends building over two appointments rather than placing maximum volume at once.
Three things: (1) defines the mandibular angle (the corner where the jaw turns up toward the ear), creating the sharp 'square jaw' appearance, (2) creates a continuous, defined line from chin to ear by adding volume along the body of the mandible, and (3) counters lower-face descent — the slight jowl appearance that develops with age. The combined effect makes the entire lower face read sharper and more youthful.
12–24 months. The jaw has minimal movement compared to other facial areas, and the structural HA fillers used (Voluma, Lyft) tend to last on the longer end here. Some patients see results persist 2+ years before maintenance.
Different goals. Jawline filler ADDS volume to define the jaw — used to create a sharper, more square appearance. Botox in the masseter SLIMS the jaw — used to soften an overly square jaw or relieve teeth grinding. Some patients combine: filler along the bone for definition, plus Botox to slim a bulky masseter that's making the lower face look wider. Janessa will explain which serves your goals.
Almost always, yes. The chin and jawline are anatomically continuous — treating one without the other can look disjointed. Most patients seeking lower-face contouring benefit from a combined plan covering both. Total syringe count is usually 3–5 across the lower face.
Yes, modestly. Filler placed along the prejowl sulcus (the hollow just in front of the jowl) and the mandibular angle (just behind it) helps disguise mild jowling and restore a continuous jawline. For significant jowls, RF skin tightening like Sublime, Morpheus8, or surgical options are more appropriate. Janessa is honest about which tier fits.
Mild bruising and swelling for 3–7 days. The jawline is bony and tolerates filler well — bruising is typically less than under-eye or lip work. Most patients are presentable within 24 hours and back to normal activities the same day.
